Tysoe

Frederick Stanley Tysoe was born in Long Eaton in 1920.  His father, also Frederick, was a shunter for the Midland Railway.  His mother, Hilda, was from Nottingham.

He attended Tamworth Road School (Brooklands) and was a regular attender at St Mary’s Church

By 1939 the family had moved to 29 Birchwood Avenue, New Sawley.  And Frederick (junior) was working as a cardboard box cutter & greaser for Kartona & Co. in Lenton.  In 1941 he volunteered for the RAF and on completion of his training he joined 92 Squadron, which operated Spitfires.

In Feb 1942 the squadron moved to Egypt and by April they were at RAF Heliopolis, near Cairo.  He was an LAC (leading aircraftsman) when he was killed during an air raid on 1st August, aged 21. 

He is buried at Heliopolis War Cemetery.
